London is one of the oldest and most important commercial and cultural cities in the world.
It is the most populous municipality in the European Union.
In the past twenty years, starting in the 1980’s, London–and the United Kingdom–has become a leading proponent for gay human rights. The landmark Civil Partnership Act 2004 created a parallel legal structure to marriage, giving gay couples all the rights and responsibilites of marriage, including the eligibility to apply to adopt children. In addition, discrimination based on both sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal in many fields, including housing, employment and the provision of goods and services. Likewise, Her Majesty’s Armed Forces allows LGBT individuals to serve openly.
A walk around this great city reveals an infinte kaleidoscope of images–from diamonds to dungeons, it’s all here.
