Mostar is a city and municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the largest and one of the most important cities in the Herzegovina region. The city is situated on the Neretva river and is the fifth-largest city in the country. The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. It was bombed during the Yugoslav wars in the 1990’s but has since been rebuilt. With its many destroyed buildings it is somewhat painful to visit, but there are many new buildings that show life back in full bloom.
